Story telling, maps, harvest and more

This week we have started a new story, The three little pigs.  We have read the story, drawn a class story map and used puppets to retell the story.  We are getting very good at making story maps.

After our walk around the village we made a map of our area.  We really enjoyed doing this and, this week, some of us chose to draw our own map for our new dolls to play on.  We made sure there was a school, park, forest, pond and lots of other things for them to keep interested in.

Two of us have spent a lot of time using our 'selfie' props.  We have found it very funny making ourselves into different people and making everybody else giggle.

Following on from our pumpkin investigations last week, we tried pumpkin seeds to eat.  Some of us really liked them and had them during snack time too.  We poured some from bowl into our own bowl, then washed and dried our bowl once we had finished.  We are going to try some other seeds over the next few weeks to see if we like them too.

On Friday we had our first visit to St. Michael's church, this was for our harvest festival.  We walked perfectly there and back, we joined in with all the songs and performed a dance to Dingle Dangle Scarecrow.  We really enjoyed the shouting out loud part in the song!  Everybody clapped and said we did well.  

This week we did not have any superstar certificates because we were at church but Mrs. Holmes and Miss. Grimmer said we are all superstars and they they were very proud of us, they also said we were A-MA-Z-ING!

Outdoor learning and school council

We have had another very busy week in Red Class.  We have been learning our harvest songs with Keystage 1, chasing bubbles, voting for our school council representatives, year 2 house captains and year 1 vice captains.  We have had our first P.E lesson (which we LOVED), we have been learning new sounds and tricky words, and on Friday we had our first outdoor learning session (another lesson that we LOVED!)  It has been a really busy, exciting week, also tiring for our little 4 and 5 year old bodies. Many children, from our class, bravely stood up and told the whole school why they would like to be our school council representatives.  Everybody was proud of how brave they were and of the ideas that they had.  After a whole school vote we would like to congratulate our class school council members Charlotte and Kodie Well done to you both, they will be taking part in their first meeting next week. Foam, writing, the number 5 and The Gruffalo

Our superstars this week are: Freddie  and George for responsibility and resilience.  Well done both of you. In one of our tuff trays we have a wintry scene, we have enjoyed using the foam and discovering the animals that have been hiding. We have all been spending time writing on our whiteboards, we have been choosing to do this a lot so Mrs. Holmes and Miss. Grimmer has given us some notebooks.  We have really enjoyed using these and spend lots of time copying our sounds and tricky words. In maths we have been learning about the number 5, we designed birthday cakes for Kipper as it was his fifth birthday. This week we had our first ever school trip.  We sat beautifully on the coach and behaved impeccably all morning.  We thought the Gruffalo was fantastic, we all enjoyed joining in with the singing, repeated refrains and dancing.  The Gruffalo even wanted to come home with us but we had to say no, he was too big and wouldn't fit into our uniform!

Our first P.E lesson

Today we had our first P.E lesson.  Everyone was so excited, Millie even warmed up for it in the morning, our lesson wasn't until the afternoon. We had great fun playing traffic lights and beans to warm up.  We then showed our fantastic balancing skills by putting a tennis ball on to the centre of our racquet and trying to walk with it.  We worked independently and in pairs.
